Electricity blackout: when an airport can’t be shut down
When the power grid went down, air transport was one of the hardest hit sectors. However, thanks to well-designed back-up systems, some airports were able to continue operating their critical systems: radar, communications, security systems, etc.
Barajas, Valencia… Why did some airports remain operational during the blackout?
The recent blackout that affected a large part of the Iberian Peninsula highlighted the fragility of many infrastructures in the face of a total loss of electricity supply. However, at some key airports, such as Barajas and Valencia, activity was not halted thanks to the immediate activation of well-designed energy back-up systems.
Does your system cover the essentials in case of another power outage?
Keeping systems such as radar, communications, runway lighting, access control or security zones operational depends not only on having emergency generators, but also on having a continuous supply of clean, ready-to-use fuel. This is where automatic refuelling and preventative filtering systems come into play.
Our transfer units and preventive polishing systems ensure that the fuel stored in the tanks is kept clean and in optimum condition. This ensures that it is always ready to power emergency generators in the event of a power outage.
At Inpro, we are committed to ensuring that emergency systems work when it really matters
At Inpro, we design specific solutions for this type of environment, where maximum availability and zero margin for error are required. Our transfer pressure units, level control systems and SAFA filtering and polishing equipment ensure that the stored diesel oil is in perfect condition and arrives safely and automatically to the generators.
In addition, our systems allow remote monitoring, redundancy in critical elements and integrated security protocols. Because in an airport, operational continuity is non-negotiable: every second without power can compromise the safety of thousands of passengers and operations.
