Recent power outage in Spain leaves key lessons for data centres
The massive blackout that affected a large part of the Iberian Peninsula demonstrated the importance of truly reliable back-up systems. Many data centres continued to operate thanks to uninterruptible power supplies, but it also revealed facilities with limitations that were not foreseen.
Does the system cover all essential equipment?
Some sites saw their planned autonomy exceeded, or found that critical systems – such as air conditioning, monitoring or even physical access to the facilities – were not connected to the back-up system. Others identified that their fuel tanks were insufficient to ensure continuity beyond a few hours.
This episode has served as a wake-up call: it is not enough to have an emergency system. It is imperative that it is properly designed, sized and maintained to ensure that all critical data centre services continue to operate without interruption. Now more than ever, it is time to review, upgrade or expand the backup power infrastructure.
Our systems supply the emergency generators and filter the diesel fuel accumulated in the tank, ensuring an immediate and clean supply in the event of an emergency.
At Inpro we make sure that back-up power is available when it is needed most.
At Inpro, we design fuel transfer and power supply systems for emergency generators that ensure total continuity even in the most critical moments. Our systems allow automation, monitoring and continuous filtering and polishing of diesel or HVO to ensure that generators can operate at maximum performance.
